Assoc. Prof. Phong Thai from UQ Invited to Visit and Deliver Academic Report at CUIT

April 28, 2025

On the morning of April 24, 2025, at the invitation of the School of Atmospheric Sciences, Associate Professor Phong Thai from the University of Queensland(UQ), Australia, visited our university for an exchange and delivered an academic lecture titled "Monitoring Exposure to Air Pollution from Traffic in Vietnam". The lecture was hosted by Dr. Xiu Meng from the School of Atmospheric Sciences. Faculty and students from the School of Atmospheric Sciences, including Associate Professors Zhang Ying and Yan Yan, Dr. Yang He, as well as Professor Yin Hongling and Dr. Sun Jing from the School of Resources and Environment, participated in the academic exchange.

Associate Professor Phong Thai has long been dedicated to the research of environmental pollution exposure assessment and health risks. Not only has he achieved fruitful results in the field of air pollution monitoring in Australia, but he has also conducted pollution tracking in developing countries. He systematically introduced the traffic pollution monitoring project carried out by his team in Vietnam, and focused on sharing how to accurately assess the daily exposure of residents to traffic pollution through self-developed low-cost air monitoring equipment (such as sensor networks, portable PM2.5detectors, etc.), combined with big data analysis and geographic information systems (GIS).

During the interactive session, Associate Professor Phong Thai and the teachers and students of our university had in-depth discussions on topics such as "sensor data calibration", "community participatory monitoring models", and "localization challenges in technology promotion". This academic activity not only provided our teachers and students with a cutting-edge research perspective, but also demonstrated the enthusiasm of our university in exploring the field of environmental science.
