Innovation Team of Science and Technology Department of Sichuan Province The team of climate change and disaster prevention and mitigation focuses on the atmospheric sciences and the related sciences of Tibetan plateau and surrounding areas, including plateau weather, plateau climate, plateau vortex, highland snow, regional ecological environment, etc. It has made great achievement in scientific research, cultivated a large number of senior research talents, and formed distinctive and influential research in the region and the country. The research is attached great importance by the domestic and foreign academia of atmospheric sciences and has a profound impact on the research of climate change, meteorological operational forecasting, meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation, and ecological environment protection. After thirty years of development, our team has formed three research groups, i.e. meteorological disasters and disaster prevention and mitigation, climate and climate change, meteorological applications and services. After decades of development, it became an outstanding research team with high-level educational background, reasonable structure of disciplines and age, extensive professional expertise, excellent practical experiences, and great ability of innovation. The team has a staff of 60 people, including nine doctoral supervisors, two academic and technical leaders of Sichuan Province and five candidates of academic and technical leaders, three experts with Special government allowances of the State Council, three outstanding experts of Sichuan Province. The team leader, Professor Fan, made outstanding achievement in the research of climate change numerical simulation. He was chosen as the outstanding expert of Sichuan Province, the candidate of academic and technical leader in Sichuan Province, the top-ten young teachers in Sichuan, the young candidate of outstanding discipline leader in Sichuan Province, deputy director of the Plateau Meteorology Committee of Chinese meteorological Society. Each research group consists of 10-13 professors, 3-4 associate professors or doctors, 3-5 lecturers. The team undertook a number of national and provincial research projects, including one joint project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of PRC and Japan Science and Technology Agency, one cooperation project of China and Japan on natural disaster, six National Program on Key Basic Research Project (973 Program), and over 30 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Climbing Program, National R&D Programs and others. The team won six Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards (one First-prize, two Second-prize, and three Third-prize). In the recent five years, the team undertook 53 research projects, including 15 national projects from 973 projects and national projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, and 15 provincial projects from China Meteorological Administration, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Science and Technology Department of Sichuan Province. More than 200 papers were published on the renowned journals including Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine research, Journal of the Meteorological Society of Japan, Chinese Science Bulletin, Advances in Atmospheric Sciences, Journal of Climate, Monthly Weather Review, Theoretical and Applied Climatology, Chinese Science Bulletin, Chinese Journal of Geophysics, Acta Meteorological Sinica, and Chinese Journal of Atmospheric Sciences. Four academic monographs and two textbooks came off the press. Innovation Team of Education Department of Sichuan Province The team has approved as the Innovation Team by Education Department of Sichuan Province in 2014. With Plateau Atmosphere and Environment Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province as a platform, this team focuses on scientific problems on the evolution of circulation systems at Tibetan Plateau and its influence on meteorological disasters in Sichuan. It has three research groups, including plateau atmospheric dynamics, climate change and ecological environment, and meteorological disasters and disaster prevention and mitigation. The research work aims to enhance the theoretical and practical research of mitigation and adaptation to climate change, to promote the sustainable development of national industry and social economy, to provide scientific support for the international negotiations on climate change, and to safeguarding national interests. The team consists of 12 professors and 3 associate professors, and undertook a number of national and provincial research projects.
