Introduction
The College of Atmospheric Science of Chengdu University of Information Engineering originated from the Meteorological Cadre Training Brigade of the Southwest Military Region of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, which was established in 1951. In 1979, it began to enroll undergraduate students in atmospheric science. In 2004-2017, it started to train national defense students. In 2008, it set up the major of applied meteorology. In 2020, the major of atmospheric science and the major of applied meteorology were selected as national and provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites respectively. In 2003, it was approved as a master's degree authorization point for the second level discipline of "Meteorology". In 2004, it began to train master's students. In the same year, "Meteorology" was approved as a key construction discipline in Sichuan Province. In 2006, it was approved as a master's degree authorization point for the first level discipline of "Atmospheric Science". In 2024, it was approved as a doctoral degree authorization point for the first level discipline of "Atmospheric Science". In 2016, it was approved as a "Double First Class" discipline in Sichuan Province, and in 2023, it was approved as a "Gongga Plan" discipline for the construction of "Double First Class" in Sichuan Province. In recent years, it has entered the top 50% of atmospheric science in the "Best Discipline Ranking of Soft Science in China". The earth science discipline and environmental ecology discipline, mainly supported by atmospheric science, have both entered the top 1% of ESI global rankings, reflecting the strong academic influence of atmospheric science discipline. The college currently has provincial and ministerial level scientific research and innovation platforms such as the Sichuan Key Laboratory of Plateau Atmosphere and Environment Research Center, Sichuan Meteorological Disaster Prediction and Early Warning Engineering Laboratory, Chengdu Plain Urban Meteorology and Environment Sichuan Field Scientific Observation and Research Station, and has established teaching and research platforms such as the Sichuan Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Meteorological Forecasting, Sichuan Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center for Meteorological Forecasting, Sichuan Mountain Ecological Meteorological Comprehensive Observation Experimental Station, Southwest Air Traffic Control Bureau Aviation Meteorological Innovation Joint Laboratory, China Power Investment Corporation Electric Power Engineering Co., Ltd. Power Meteorology Joint Laboratory, and Yunnan Natural Disaster Defense Technology Research and Development Center of Chengdu University of Information Science and Technology. The college has established the Chengdu University of Information Science and Technology Meteorological Science Popularization Base, which is a national, provincial, and municipal level science popularization base characterized by meteorological disaster prevention and reduction, climate change, and ecological civilization. |
