CUIT’s Earth science enters the top 1% of the ESI global rankings

October 17, 2022

On May 12, Clarivate Analytics released the basic scientific index data (ESI) for the May period, and CUIT’s Earth science (GEOSCIENCES) entered the top 1% of the ESI global rankings, achieving a breakthrough in the world’s top 1% of the ESI of CUIT’s disciplines. This marks that CUIT has entered the international high-level ranks in this subject field and achieved a new breakthrough in subject construction.

According to the data released by ESI in May, from January 2012 to February 2022, 719 SCI papers were published in Earth Science by CUIT, with a total of 6,565 citations and an average of 9.13 citations.

Disciplines are the core support for colleges and universities to carry out talent training, scientific research, social services, and international exchanges and cooperation. In recent years, CUIT has always adhered to the leading position of discipline construction, focusing on the construction of “double first-class” and the construction of new doctoral degree authorized units, competing for competition, striving for first-class, and solidly carrying out connotation construction. The selection of the earth science discipline this time is a remarkable result of the construction of the discipline cluster in our school, which marks the significant improvement of the influence of the atmospheric science discipline and CUIT.

According to the forecast, the “engineering” discipline of CUIT is also expected to enter the top 1% of the ESI global rankings within this year.

News Background:

ESI (Essential Science Indicators, basic scientific indicators database) is a quantitative analysis tool in academic evaluation. It divides disciplines into 22 categories and counts AR papers (document types: Article and Review) collected by SCIE and SSCI in global scientific research institutions in the past 10 years, sorted by citation frequency, revealing the data of the top 1% institutions in the world for each subject. ESI is updated every two months, which can timely reflect the quality of papers of various academic institutions and the international competitiveness and influence of scientific research. It is a basic analysis and evaluation tool to measure the level of scientific research and track scientific development trends.
